Bazaar Vendors

Hey guys,

The guild Millions' vender here -- with the server population as it is, it's kind of tough for new players to get in the groove and progress the way people used to. I saw one or two new people to the server yesterday, and it got me thinking about when I originally found the server. When I first came into the server, there were probably about 20 different traders in the bazaar, selling all sorts of useful things (especially rank 1 spells) which helped me progress. I was able to save up enough money to buy one of the really useful rank 1 spells like Gladiator, and bust through the first tier, leading me on to the next and the next. Ever since I've been back the last week, there's been exactly 0 people in the bazaar all day, and it's kind of tough to see.

To this end, I'd like to see if others will join me in keeping a vendor up in the bazaar to sell some useful item drops (some good attunable items, spells, tokens, tradeskill items, etc.). I think it's important to keep everyone on the server who makes their way here, and it would be a damn shame if someone got frustrated while trying to progress because of the lack of community. What I'm not suggesting is that we just give things away freely (or too cheaply), because people should still have to work for and earn what they get -- this is why I've priced my items accordingly, even though there are few people needing ornaments of the gods, rank 1 heals, etc. in the population right now.

My hope is that the people who make their way onto the server by way of the emu login service will have a better "first day" experience than what someone might have right now. If things start looking a little healthier, I might even do a little Facebook advertising for the server to get some new folks interested.

I've suggested a few things so folks can sell things offline. A simple idea is to do a screenshot of what your vendor has for sale and post it on Market Place forums and also post when your vendor is most likely to be up. If you store your image on Photobucket or elsewhere, can just update when necessary there and the update will also appear on Market Place. Think I may do this soon myself as my vendor has a few bags full of holiday gear for sale.

I'd absolutely be willing to program a module for the server that would allow users to spawn a vendor and carry an inventory, that they wouldn't need to leave a client online for. I'm an awesome and fairly successful developer (retired at 35), and was going to do something along the lines of running players that responded to certain commands using macroquest (allowing a user to "own" items within the vendors' inventory, and collect the money from them), and basically just sticking them on a free server of mine to sit there in the bazaar. Would be much better (and less hacky/more trustworthy) if I could make something that could be included in the server, though.

In case that wouldn't be wanted by the server owners, my plan is:

Make a macroquest bot that lets you hand items over, keeps track of who handed the item (and owns it), and responds to tells for things like how much money is in your "account". That way, you basically find a vendor with free slots, hand them an item that they don't have, and you own that "slot" of an item. If it sells, you send a message while standing within range of the vendor to collect your money. The system would require a lot of trust, and that the connection for these bots stay up. But, it could be a workaround that would at least give us a little life in the bazaar.

I'd also be willing to do the web dev to get the website hooked up with a live browsing of all of the items for sale in the bazaar. As a matter of fact, I'd be willing to retool the magelo stuff as well, as finding out crucial information is kind of hard in the tool as it is right now.

I wish we could have the old version of the bazaar -- the one that came out with Luclin. It's much smaller, and wouldn't require as much movement to get to the vendors. Is it an option to get that zone instead of the refurbished bazaar zone?

I'm all for improving the "first day" experience so please do make suggestions regarding that (start a new topic preferably). This could be anything really, not just offering bazaar mules, new guide NPCs, improvements to starting quests/zones, etc.

While the offline bazaar mule sounds great, implementing more custom code is unfortunately out of the scope for now. We were actually working on reducing it and trying to bring us closer to the main eqemu code for several reasons.

As for the web tools, we can work on those just please keep in mind some items are intentionally "hidden" there. We can obviously change this now that these items aren't "new" and no need to keep them hidden to avoid spoilers.

I got your PM too bazillion, will reply ASAP since Noren is inactive ATM.

Thanks for the feedback and brainstorming, keep it going. :)

p.s. I totally agree but unfortunately I'm afraid the old bazaar is not an option. :( I'll look into it anyway.

Well,

I'm not a coder, but I can certainly try to keep a bazaar mule up. I agree that an empty bazaar is sorta sad.

Wow the bazaar mule sounds pretty awesome I would totally participate in that if you make it happen. Also one suggestion to make it better for new player and old alike...Quest look up in the webtools. Especially for the custom quests and events I had a hell of a time trying to figure out which zones had Halloween stuff and had to scour old server updates only to find things moved year to year. Even if it was just a list of the custom quests with starting zone/npc/reward, and let us figure out the rest.

Aye what could happen is a programmer can make a npc in orig baz that can commision items. Allow the npc to buy / sell the items for you. I have seen it on a few other emulators seems like a neat alternative with the old bazaar.
