If we do decide to go the Mini/Private login route then some care has to be taken with it. At least one exploit (no details going to be given here - they were given to those who need to know) is still in play that can seriously cripple a machine with private login running.

The login from SVN is a good choice, because then you have source control at least.

This might be the wrong place for this. But is there a login for the server? Private or otherwise? Just curious and if so exploits aside wouldn't it be wiser to keep hte login private and to just know who connects?

A Denial of Service attack.... Basically sending more packets than the server can handle recieving and locks it up so nobody else can connect.

Yeah, Distributed Denial of Service Attack. That way no single IP is trackable. Basically the host's of the server say screw you because they fear it may happen to the rest of their customer's servers and... you see... we are left to forum posting. Fail.

It really looks like the retail companies are doing this. Noone else would really have any motive. After all a free server is not something someone is willing to buy for ... the only other option is retail companies who produce the software are actively engaging in computer hacking ... and that is just horrible. Someone needs to invent a prog that will blow their PC up in their face when they try this and deal with them permanently.

Someone does have a motive. Look back at the explanation about that douchebag from P1999. Trust me it's not Sony if thats what you're hinting at. A company would be more likely to sue you than DDoS your Login Server
