Quest Walkthrough: Ghillie's Research

Upon completion of the Citadel of the Worldslayer, speak to Ghillie to start the quest Ghillie's Research. Follow the steps below to complete the quest.

Step 1: Collect Groundspawns in Noble's Causeway

Collect 4 pre-lootable groundspawns in Noble's Causeway and turn them in to Ghillie in Hidden Vale.

Step 2: Speak with Lilly

Talk to Lilly, the charm fairy in Hidden Forest, and follow her dialogue.

Step 3: Activate the Foresight

Return to Ghillie and say "Please return the foresight." Take the foresight to Lilly and follow her dialogue to receive an activated foresight. Take the activated foresight back to Ghillie and receive the remaining three foresights from her.

Step 4: Unlock 3 quests from Alvanari Spiritseeker

Head to Noble's Causeway Haven and hail Alvanari Spiritseeker. Follow the dialogue to unlock 3 quests from the glowing talosians to learn the meanings of the words.

Step 5: Complete Speaking to Spirits: Echoes

Hail Seraph and get the quest Speaking to Spirits: Echoes. Complete the following tasks:

• Run around Lannal the Beast Tamer for the first update
• Run around the Tunnel heading to Slavedriver Menlo for the second update
• Run to the ledge by Bone Cracker pit update is almost directly above Bone Cracker spawn
• Run around/through the archway by Nerask at the south end of the zone
• Swim in the pond in Haven of NC and hail Seraph to complete the task.

Step 6: Complete Speaking to Spirits: Ghost Hunt

Hail Quorelle and get the quest Speaking to Spirits: Ghost Hunt. Kill 4 named for updates and hail Quorelle to complete the task.

Step 7: Complete Speaking to Spirits: Have Faith

Hail Anixienne and get the quest Speaking to Spirits: Have Faith. This quest is timed and requires running through floating white spirits in a set path across the zone, from Haven to the bridge heading to Tarlang. It is recommended to have some help with pre-clearing if you do not have the Stone of Absolute Antithesis. If you have completed the Stone of Absolute Antithesis, Anixienne will make you non-kos to mobs until you complete or run out of time getting to a spirit. See the map below for a rough estimation of the path the spirits spawn in. Run through the glowing white spirits/ghosts that spawn one at a time. If you take too long to hit the next one, the quest fails, and you have to restart. The last spirit on the bridge updates the task, and it is possible to CoTH characters to the final spirit. After hitting the last spirit on the bridge, return and hail Anixienne to complete the task.

Step 8: Defeat Kaex, Ykt, and Chant

With the ability to speak the language of the spirits, seek out Spirit of Kaex, Ykt, and Chant that roam the ravine (map with legend below). It is recommended to have the Ultimate Antithesis before continuing or have a lot of donor DPS. Upon approaching the spirits, they will stop moving. Hit the purple text, and shortly thereafter, Kaex, Ykt, or Chant will spawn. Fight breakdowns for each spirit are as follows:

• Kaex (Rooted and does not agro until person that spawned approaches, AE Ramp) drops 6 crystals per kill. Emotes periodically throughout the fight. The emote will be targeted on a single character and a black whirlpool particle effect will start dragging the character into it. Run all characters out of the black ring or be DT’ed. It is a tank and spank fight.
• Ykt (Rooted and does not agro until person that spawned approaches, AE Ramp) drops 6 crystals per kill. Emotes about preparing a linear AoE that shoots across the bridge in either direction. Second emote comes a few seconds after and fires in the direction mentioned. Spawns an AoE that deals damage every second until it fades. It is a tank and spank fight.
• Chant (Rooted and does not agro until person that spawned approaches, AE ramp) drops 6 crystals per kill. It is the hardest of the 3 and recommended to bring friends. At 4 points during the fight (HP based), Chant becomes immune to damage and spawns 4 crystals in random locations around the pit of varying colors:
  • Black Crystal (DT, hits 2 players +1 more for every 6 players)
  • Green Crystal (AoE LoS DoT, ~14k a tic)
  • Blue Crystal (Heals Chant for 25% HP)
  • Red Crystal (Spawns 2 Purple Crystals of Pain)
  • Purple Crystal of Pain (Proximity AoE)

You have about 30 seconds to kill each crystal, or the effect of that crystal will happen. After all the crystals are dead for the phase, Chant glows white and can be hit. The first emote and wave of crystals occur at about 80%. For the first wave, only 1 of the four crystals is active. Chant starts to glow with an aura of the crystal's color, and a visible path to the crystal will appear. The second emote and wave of crystals occur at about 50%. For this wave, 2 of the four crystals will become active 1 after the other. Pay attention to the order and kill the crystals in the correct order. The third emote and wave of crystals occur at about 20-15%. It is the same as the second wave, except there will be 3 activated crystals this time. The fourth and final emote and wave of crystals occur at 5%. It is the same as the second and third wave, except all 4 crystals will become active this time. Kill Chant.

Step 9: Open the Portal to Deepscar

With the three crystals from Kaex, Ykt, and Chant, head to the location on the map to open the portal to Deepscar (acts like a portal in HoH, run into it), teleport in and talk to Ghillie. Wedge yourself into the rocks and /say apertum mihi (or /say open me).

Step 10: Complete Ghillie's Research

After zoning into the instance, hand Ghillie the 3 crystals from Kaex, Ykt, and Chant and complete the task Ghillie’s Research. The instance can now be accessed from Hidden Vale.
